Research focus:
I’m developing deuterated water (2H2O) as a source of 2H isotope tracer for studying bacterial metabolism. Feeding bacteria sugars made with isotopes in them (e.g. 13C, 15N, 2H) has been a really powerful technique for tracking metabolism through an organism, but those labeled sugars aren’t always available. With 2H2O, we have a source of isotope label regardless of the carbon source that a bacterium needs!
My other priority in the lab is to develop media content for both internal and external use. That includes videos of our protocols (check them out on our YouTube channel!), our Twitter, and science visuals for outreach and publications.
